How does it work

The mechanisms behind EFT include deactivation of the amygdala (stress centre) in the brain and hippocampus (memory centre) as well as recent research into vagal nerve improvement. EFT has also been shown to significantly lower cortisol levels, which is the stress hormone. Research on gene expression indicates EFT has the ability to down regulate genes associated with the stress response an up-regulate or improve immune functioning.​ 

 

The process has someone state the truth of what is happening for him or her and acknowledging it. We are actually engaging the (stress centre) amygdala and the limbic system (emotions) in the brain and body with this technique.​ It is if as though we are engaging these negative feelings or sensations just long enough to feel them then we hit the delete button through the tapping. It is the tapping process that calms the psychological response from the body once this is released cognitive shifts or re frames may surface naturally.​ If we simply tap with a positive affirmation first it may only result in a minor shift we need to tap on the real problem and reduce the intensity before tapping on the positive.

By creating a safe space to expose the issue, with the right specific questions we can gently neutralize the emotions and aspects that are holding up the belief system/issue. Once the emotion is not attached to the experiences or beliefs, we can let them go.
